I was out early on a bitter cold and windy December morning at Duxbury Beach in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Just by being out here in the elements like I was today for a short while, I can see why nature can have such a devastating environmental impact on open coastal areas such as this on a 24/7 basis.

Seen here in this photo are two popular beach erosion control devices working side by side... A beach grass planting area working in conjunction with fencing... Both help in protecting the beach and helping curtail the beaches erosion by forming a barrier through means of a natural protective shield. Beach grass, a course brittle plant is highly susceptible to damage caused by humans and animals walking on and near it causing the fragile brittle blades and root system to break under the surrounding sands pressure, resulting in the plants death.
